Syd Martin has long been recognized as one of boxing’s outstanding trainers. For over fifty years he has been admired, respected, and honored for his many accomplishments. He worked with former 5-time world champion Emile Griffith for Griffith’s entire career.
One of his first students was the late, great Jack Johnson. Other greats he worked with include Randy Sandy, George Foreman, Roberto Duran, Joe Louis, Chalky Wright, Muhammad Ali, and Oscar Bonavena. Syd trained three fighters on the 1952 Olympic team: Floyd Patterson, Chico Rollins, and Edson Brown.
Syd is now retired and still resides in Teaneck, NJ. He is a real gentleman and a most welcome addition to our Hall of Fame.
