- Won the United States Amateur Lightweight Championship in 1987.
- Lost to Todd Foster by a 5-0 decision at the 1988 United States Olympic Box-Offs in the light welterweight division. Murray was a substitute for Lavell Finger, who was disqualified for failing a drug test.
