Nick (Shine) Fiorito was born in 1906 in Paterson’s Stoney Road section. He trained fighters from the 20′ s into the 60’s. Shine was one of the best known cut men in his time, and worked in the corners for many other trainers and managers. His first fighter whom he trained, Frankie Bauman, fought for the Bantaom weight title. Shine has trained amateur fighters since the Diamond Gloves began in 1933 and was always in the blue corner working every fight, whether they were his fighters or not. Some of the better known professional fighters that he trained during his years were Kenny Malone, Johnny O’Keefe, Al Diamond, Johnny Zawacki and Carl Duva (Lou’s brother), and Hall of Famers Vince Martinez, Joey Harrison, John Darby, Sam Capone and Al Capone. Through the years he has trained amateur and professional fighters from the Mickey Connelly Gym that are too numerous to name without slighting anyone. Shine retired from boxing 20 years ago.
