Ralph came from a boxing family with noted brothers, Mickey and Phillie Griffin. Ralph won his first 16 bouts as a professional. He boxed such boxers as Artie Tedesco, Allie Wolte, Young Phil Sharkey, Carmine Fatta, Freddie Archer, Maxie Fischer and Allie Stolz. He won a gold medal in a tournament held in Palermo, Sicily in 1944. While in the Armed Forces, he also had a record of 22 wins and one loss. He is married to the former Mary Galiano and they are the proud parents of three sons, Ralph, Randy and Rory and they have five grandchildren.
